Theology Lecture Series -- October 24, 2016
"The Nestorian Heresy and Islam: Two Trials Confronting the Assyro-Chaldean Church"

Presenter: Bishop Mar Bawai Soro
Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Vianney Hall Auditorium

The Assyro-Chaldean ecclesial tradition, shared by the Assyrian Church of the East and the Catholic Chaldean Church, is unique among those of Christian antiquity for the fact that its origin and its development lay entirely outside of the Greco-Roman world, in the sphere of Mesopotamian and Semitic language and culture. Its geographical location and its cultural affinities have also placed it at the center of major doctrinal controversies including the Nestorian crisis and the rise of Islam. Mar Bawai Soro will examine these two great historical challenges as well as the relationship between them both, with a view to their relevance to the work of Christian unity today and the Church’s coexistence with the Islamic world.
