Borrowing Privileges

The faculty, staff and students of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary are entitled to check out library materials.

Borrowing privileges are extended to the community through a paid membership of $15 for 6 months and $25 for 1 year. An application for borrowing privileges must be filled out and at least one type of identification, preferably a driver’s license, will need to be presented.

Loan Periods

  • Regular Loans: 4 weeks
  • Audio: 4 weeks
  • Videos: 4 weeks
  • Book Renewals: Once
  • Reserve materials, reference books and periodicals do not circulate.

Fines for Overdue Books:

The Library charges 10ยข per day for overdue books. After 50 days, an overdue book becomes lost and a $50.00 replacement fee and a $10.00 handling fee are charged.

Materials may not be renewed if requested by another patron. The library reserves the right to immediately recall any materials needed by Saint Charles Seminary students or faculty.

Students enrolled in off-campus courses are entitled to the same privileges as on-campus students.

Overdue notices are sent to borrowers as a courtesy or reminder. Any student,, however, who has materials overdue at the end of the semester will have his or her grades and transcripts withheld until the materials are paid for or returned.

Borrowers are responsible for returning all library materials promptly and in good condition. Borrowers will otherwise be charged for the loss or damage of a book.

Study Rooms

  • Study rooms must be signed out and will be available on a first-come first-serve basis.
  • The rooms are only available to groups of 3 or more – not single persons.
  • The rooms are only available to the faculty and students of Saint Charles Seminary.

Computer Lab

  • The computer lab is for use for the faculty and students of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary only. No visitors may use the computer lab.
  • If a faculty member would like to use the lab for a single class period he or she may do so by signing up for the room via the library director Cait Kokolus.

Study Carrels

  • Students and faculty of Saint Charles Seminary are given preference for the use of the study carrels. Visitors may use the carrels if there are empty ones available.
  • The study carrels may be reserved only by faculty.
  • If a student or faculty member would like to leave books on the study carrels overnight, they must check them out at the circulation desk and put a note on the books requesting that the books not be reshelved. If the librarians find library books on the study carrels without a note, books will be reshelved.
  • If a librarian finds personal books left on the study carrels they will be held behind the circulation desk for a period of 30 days.

SEPTLA & TCLC Institutions

The Library belongs to consortia that strengthen the resources available to Saint Charles Seminary faculty and students and, in turn, make the Ryan Memorial Library’s collections available to students from other colleges and seminaries. Students from participating schools are allowed to check out books. These consortia include:
