Pope Francis named Bishop Nelson J. Perez, Auxiliary Bishop of Rockville Centre, N.Y., as 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland, Ohio. Bishop Perez graduated from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in May of 1989. He also received his Masters of Divinity degree and Masters of Arts degree in Theology at St. Charles. Congratulations and many blessings to Bishop Perez.
Reverend Joseph Shenosky, Vice Rector of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, just recently returned from Puerto Rico, where he served as one of the Catholic theologians on the commission in the ecumenical dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Disciples of Christ!
This morning, it was announced in Rome that Pope Francis has named Monsignor Alfred A. Schlert as the Fifth Bishop of Allentown. Monsignor Schlert has been most recently serving as Diocesan Administrator of the Diocese of Allentown. He is a native son of Allentown, who began his formation for the priesthood here at Saint Charles in 1979, before transferring to St. John Lateran University in Rome.
Congratulations to Fr. Ned Shlesinger, the director of spiritual formation in the Theology Seminary. This morning Pope Francis named him as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Please keep him in your prayers. The date of his Episcopal ordination has not yet been announced.
