Pope Francis appoints Archbishop Adams, ’70, and Archbishop Green, ’76, as Vatican Nuncios to Great Britain and Sweden, respectively

Archbishop Adams, ’70, and Green, ’76, have both been in the diplomatic corps for many years.

Archbishop Edward Adams will be responsible for keeping the Vatican informed of Brexit developments, and be the papal representative to the government authorities in Great Britain, while also playing a crucial role in the selection of bishops. He is the first native English speaker named as papal ambassador to Great Britain in over fifty years. Archbishop Adams most recently served in Greece and previously served as papal ambassador to Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and the Philippines.

Archbishop James Patrick Green had most recently been Archbishop of Altino and Apostolic Nuncio in Peru. He will now be the Apostolic Nuncio to Sweden and Iceland.
