Pope Francis names Msgr. Alfred A. Schlert as Fifth Bishop of Allentown

This morning, it was announced in Rome that Pope Francis has named Monsignor Alfred A. Schlert as the Fifth Bishop of Allentown.

Monsignor Schlert has been most recently serving as Diocesan Administrator of the Diocese of Allentown.  He is a native son of Allentown, who began his formation for the priesthood here at Saint Charles in 1979, before transferring to St. John Lateran University in Rome.  He was ordained by the late Bishop Thomas Welsh in 1987. Bishop-Elect Schlert will be ordained and installed as Bishop of Allentown on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at the Cathedral of Saint Catherine of Siena, Allentown.
