Why
do you think Saint Charles Seminary has such an excellent
national and international reputation?
Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary is world-renowned for the excellent
quality of its program of priestly formation which prepares candidates
for the Priesthood in human, intellectual, spiritual, and pastoral
dimensions of formation. This holistic formation program is intended
to aid the seminarian as he integrates growth and development in
the various aspects of his life, as directed in Pope John Paul
II's Apostolic Exhortation, Pastores Dabo Vobis.
Through more than
170 years of American history, in eras of growth and change, and
of accomplishment and challenge, the Seminary has been well suited
to carry
out its mission. Accelerated international recognition came to the Seminary with
the visit of Pope John Paul II during his first mission to the United States
in 1979. In 1999, the Vatican's Congregation for Catholic Education recognized
the excellence of the Seminary's faculty and curriculum by according the Seminary
the privilege of granting the Baccalaureate of Sacred Theology Degree (S.T.B.)
with the status
of a "free-standing, unaffiliated Theological Institute."
With its
long and venerable history, as well as its recognized consistency, continuity,
and stability in theological education for priestly service, Saint Charles
benefits from an invaluable resource of accumulated experience
in the four facets of priestly
formation.
