A Message From Reverend Christopher B. Rogers
Director, Office for Vocations to the Diocesan Priesthood

“The Church is Alive”

With these words, Pope Benedict XVI began his ministry as Pope at his installation Mass on April 24, 2005. These words addressed to the thousands gathered in St. Peter’s Square and to millions throughout the world, served as a fresh reminder to all that indeed the Church is alive, the Church is young, the Church is strong.

The Church is all of these things because Jesus Christ is all of them as well. The Church is His Body. Having conquered death, Christ dies no more. He lives forever and He invites all of us to share in His life. Life in abundance.

Do you have abundant life? Are you aware of God’s call, His purpose for your life? Are you willing to find it? If you are, I beseech you – turn to Christ Jesus.

We discover life’s purpose only in Christ, in hearing his call, in responding to it and in generously living our life for others. The call to be a priest is a unique call. It is a call to be Christ for the world today. To make Him present by proclaiming His word, celebrating His sacraments and living His life for others.

God places this call in the hearts of those whom He chooses so that the entire Church may continue to share in the fullness of Christ’s life.

Throughout history, thousands of men have responded to this call to be priests. Today, the Church stands in need of more men - generous, courageous men - who are unafraid to heed the call of Christ. The Vocation Office for Diocesan Priesthood is committed to helping young men in our Archdiocese to heed and discern that call of Christ.

Located at St. Charles Seminary, the Vocation Office provides various opportunities for young men to hear God’s voice, to interact with seminarians, to speak with priests first hand about the call of Christ. I encourage all of you to put us to work for you. You are not alone in your discernment. As He did on the shores of Galilee, Jesus calls others to follow Him as His priests. His call continues today. Do not be afraid to answer.

For more information about the seminary/discernment, please contact me at the Vocation Office. You may email, call or write. We are here for Jesus and for you.

Sincerely,
Father Chris Rogers
