On Tuesday, Nov. 14th, at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) 2017 General Assembly in Baltimore, Saint Charles had a particularly proud moment. Five of just six newly-elected chairs of USCCB committees are graduates of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary!
Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, ’72, Archbishop of Louisville, was elected Chairman of the Committee for Religious Liberty.
Bishop Kevin Rhoades, Bishop of Fort Wayne - South Bend and a 1979 graduate of the SCBS College, was elected Chairman of the Committee on Doctrine.
Bishop Joseph Cistone, ’75, Bishop of Saginaw, Bishop of Saginaw, was elected Chairman of the Committee on National Collections.
Bishop Michael Burbidge, ’84, Bishop of Arlington, was elected Chairman of the Committee on Communications.
Bishop Nelson Perez, ’89, Bishop of Cleveland, was elected Chairman of the Committee on Cultural Diversity.
This election signifies a truly remarkable confidence in the wisdom of Saint Charles’s alumni! It also demonstrates how St. Charles continues its tradition of preparing servant leaders after the heart of Jesus Christ for the work of the contemporary Church.
The bishops will assume their Chairmanships in November 2018 for three year terms. Congratulations to the Chairmen-elect, and may God continue to bless their ministries abundantly!
