Rev. Richard Benson, C.M., Academic Dean and an Assistant Professor at St. John's Seminary, recently visited Saint Charles to observe and speak with students participating in "Cosmos and Creation," the Templeton Foundation-funded course created and taught by Mr. James Despres, Acting Philosophy Department Chair and Director of Saint Charles's Master of Arts in Philosophical Studies (MAPS) program.
Father Benson, an active participant in discussions surrounding genetics, has lectured at scientific conferences in human genetics and to departments of human genetics and medical genetics at universities in Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Canada and the United States. He is a major advisor to - and serves on the planning team for – the Re-Engaging Science in Seminary Formation project, which awarded Mr. Despres one of its $10,000 Templeton-funded course development grants. Father Benson represented the project in his visit to Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
