The Catholic Preaching Institute was launched January 2024 with the mission of improving the homiletic experience from both the pulpit and the pew. A noble mission but where to begin? THE PEOPLE!
Our first program set out to understand people’s experience of being Engaged by the Word in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. In February/March, we opened separate surveys for pastors and parishioners to gauge their views about homilies given and heard.
The survey reports appear below. The feedback from these surveys enabled CPI to develop the programs that will be implemented over the course of this five-year project.
At the conclusion of this project (in 2028), CPI will once again survey the pastors and parishioners throughout the archdiocese to assess the growth of compelling preaching that, hopefully, CPI has helped to bring about.
The PASTOR’s survey asked all parish leaders in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for recommendations. Responses came from 68 pastors and parochial administrators, a summary of which is linked below.
The PARISHIONER’s’ survey was opened during Lent of 2024. We received nearly 6,000 submissions, representing 204 of 214 parishes in the archdiocese. A summative and analytical report of the data is linked below.
