The Word on the Streets
The Catholic Preaching Institute sponsors an ecumenical sermon series during the celebration of the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity each January.
This series seeks to draw people of faith together with inspiration for Christian discipleship that will radiate in and beyond the neighborhood.
In the course of three evening prayer services, a clergy member from one Christian denomination will preach in a neighboring church of another denomination.
The focus of the sermon series will be the biblical text chosen for the Week of Prayer and/or a topic of contemporary social concern to the local congregations.
The Word on the Streets
The inaugural sermon series took place on January 20-22, 2026 in the neighborhood of Chestnut Hill, PA. Use this link to see more details from the inaugural series.
The next series will take place on JANUARY 19-21, 2027 in the “Old City” historic district of Philadelphia.
Services will be held each evening at 7:00 p.m. using a program adapted from the resources jointly prepared and published by the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches. (Specific plans will be posted here when finalized.)
