Rector's Welcome

Welcome to the St. Charles Seminary Website!
Graced by our past; building our future!
From the grace-filled days when Bishop Francis Kenrick founded St. Charles Borromeo Seminary on the streets of Olde City Philadelphia, to the “folly” of Archbishop Wood relocating the seminary to Overbrook, to these present days of our history in Lower Gwynedd, St. Charles Seminary has been the heart of the church in Philadelphia for almost two hundred years. Just as in the past, St. Charles Borromeo Seminary continues its mission of forming men to serve the church as priests for dioceses throughout the country and the world. Our mission also includes the preparing men for service as permanent deacons, as well as religious and laity for various forms for ministry and service within the Church.
I invite you to explore the many dimensions of our seminary community; to read about our past, to share in our present and to be part of our future. In these pages, you will find information about our schools of education and formation that include:
Although programs are always important to any institution, the people of our community, whom you will meet in these pages, are about whom we are most proud. The people of our community enable us to be proud of our past and excited about our future.
Since 1832, when Charles Borromeo Seminary opened its doors, our community of priests, lay and religious faculty, staff and students have shared a special bond, rooted in a desire to grow in relationship with the Lord. It is an honor to continue this tradition today.
Thank you for your interest in St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. I hope that you will be inspired to become part of our community!
St. Charles Borromeo, pray for us!
In Cor Jesu,
Reverend T. Christopher Redcay
