Priestly Formation | Vocational Synthesis Stage
Vocational Synthesis Stage
The Vocational Synthesis Stage is the final phase of initial priestly formation, beginning with ordination to the diaconate and marked by full-time parish ministry. As stated in PPF6, paragraph 139, it is “characterized by full-time ministry in a parish setting under the direction of a pastor who serves as the primary formator.” This stage is not about further discernment but about integrating all dimensions of formation into the life of an ordained minister (PPF6, 140). It allows the deacon to enter more fully into the life of the Church, assuming increasing pastoral responsibility while deepening his priestly identity.
